AIC works with our Community Care partners to strengthen their capabilities through training, and the sharing of information and resources. In 2015, we signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Chefs Association (SCA) to train Community Care cooks, and published the “Eat Well, Age Well, Live Well” Recipe Book. You can find out more about the resources produced over the years below.

Nutrition Posters for Older Adults
Enhancing Nutrition Intake and Reducing Plate Wastage in Nursing Home (2013)In September 2012, three final-year students from Singapore Polytechnic’s (SP) Diploma in Nutrition, Health and Wellness course interning at AIC embarked on a five-week study to determine the nutritional adequacy in meal provision and intake at a local nursing home. They also measured the amount of served food unconsumed by residents. 

They submitted their findings in a poster titled “An Observational Study on Meal Provision, Plate Wastage and Nutrient Intake in a Singapore Private Nursing Home”. It won one of two Best Poster Prizes awarded at the Conference on Healthy Aging in Asia on 4 to 5 March 2013.

Sharings from Visiting Dietician, Ms Karen Abbey Ms Karen Abbey, Dietarian Manager of Resident Support Services, Nambucca Heads Aged Care Facility in New South Wales, Sydney, Australia visited Singapore under the HMDP-ILTC Visiting Expert scheme from 5 to 7 March 2012.

Karen has extensive experience in food service management in aged care facilities. She is responsible for managing Occupational Health and Safety at Nambucca Heads Aged Care Facility, has her own nutrition and catering consultancy and is a dedicated trainer in food services for university level, apprentice and school-based traineeship programmes in Nambucca.

Her qualifications include a Bachelors Science (Hon) in Human Nutrition, Graduate Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics, Masters in Health Science Management and a PhD in menu planning in aged care.

During her visit, Karen visited several nursing homes and conducted talks and workshops for our nursing home partners. Her slides are available for download below.
