To be eligible for the RTN programme, the returning nurse must meet the following requirements:

a. Singaporean or Permanent Resident (PR)
b. Above 25 years old 
c. An Enrolled Nurse (EN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
d. Has not practised nursing for more than one year
e. Employed by your organisation

Your organisation can receive government funding for the following components as part of the RTN programme: 

a. 3-month refresher course 

  Returning nurses will undergo a 1-month classroom-based training and a 2-month on-the-job training (OJT) with your organisation under the refresher course.

Note: This course is compulsory if the nurse you are hiring has left the practice for 5 years or longer. His/ her renewed Practising Certificate (PC) from the Singapore Nursing Board will only be issued upon completion of the refresher course. 

If he/ she has not been practising for less than five years and still have a valid PC, he/ she may choose to commence work with your organisation immediately. 

b. Salary support 

Returning nurses will be paid their salary during the refresher course.

​70% of monthly salary (capped at $4,000 per eligible individual)
​Above 40 years old and/or unemployed for more than 6 months at point of course commencement*
90% of monthly salary* (capped at $6,000 per eligible individual)

*Enhanced Salary Support is available only to Singapore Citizens.

c. Preceptorship 

 To support nurses returning to the Community Care sector, you will be provided funding of $2,400 per returning nurse (for five months) to arrange for nursing preceptors within your organisation to mentor these nurses. 

 Your organisation is required to provide a structured orientation programme for the returning nurse. 

d. Retention Bonus 

As part of the programme, eligible returning nurses will receive a Community Care Retention Bonus fully covered by government funding. 

ENs and RNs on full-time employment (at least 21-hour work week) will receive $3,000 and $5,000 respectively, while those on part-time employment (less than 21-hour work week) will receive $1,500 (ENs) and $2,500 (RNs).
